Hanging Frames

Welcome to another Imagine If Blog Hop – this week we had a challenge from Jo – she had some MDF Frames that she wanted us to do something with.  You can start at the beginning of the Hop at Jo’s post on the Imagine If Blog, and if you’ve come from Katrina’s Blog, you’re in the right place.

Jo sent us each 9 square frames, with instructions to make something, but don’t tell anyone or give hints.  I love hanging things, especially wind-chimes, but I think the noise would annoy me, so this is my quiet wind-chime!

I started out by matching up four pairs of frames (they weren’t all exactly the same!), then I painted in pair, first with gesso then a bright colour. The ninth frame I also painted, this was going to be by itself though.

I then got out my Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays (Under the Boardwalk and Trés Chic sets), and some Imagine If felt flowers (I used the beige ones for this), and sprayed the flowers in different colours.  I also added some sprays on top of the paint for a more distressed look.

Once everything was dry I stuck the two coloured frames together with a piece of acetate between them, then added the flowers in the same place on both sides – the flowers look like they are floating in the frames.

Next step was a visit to the hardware store and using power tools – both of which my husband was more than happy to help with!  I bought some watch chain and separated it into appropriate lengths, and I used silk ribbons to attach the chain to the frames.  I feel like this softened the whole thing and gave a nice visual comparison with the chain.

The last step was to add a piece to ribbon to hang the whole thing.

I’m really pleased with the result – now I just need to find the perfect place to hang it!

Next you’re off to see Brenda and her Friendship Box, but don’t forget to leave me a comment before you go – I love seeing what you all have to say.
