Got a chance to catch up on some Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014 this afternoon (yes, my fingers are looking a funny colour with all the inks and paint).
For the March Tag, the technique was Smudge Stamping, and I did both the “first-generation” and the “second-generation” stamping tags, I used my favourite colours of Distress Inks, including Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers. After I’d done both lots of stamping, I used the Distress Marker Spritzer with a stencil, and then added ink around the outside; then I did the ‘spritz and flick’ technique on this. I added PaperVine washi Measure Up and Snappy Scissors on the top right. I then coloured some string with Distress Stain, then wrapped around the tag with a charm attached. For the “first-generation” stamping tag, I used a Made with Love tag from PaperVine, with Distress Paint rubbed into the words.
For the April Tag, I decided to go with a camera theme, using a film strip die cut rather than the new frame die. the background used washi tapes: Film Night, Classic Clocks, and one with cameras on it. These were covered with Distress Paints. I love the Tattered Pinecone die, and using it to make roses is a great way to make this die more versatile. I used the BoBunny Mama-razzi range for this, I love the colours! Once the roses were made and on the tag, I coloured some seam binding with Distress Inks, and then added a camera charm, similar to the Snap Snap Camera ones. to finish off the tag I used Distress Ink to colour some string for the top of the tag.
This is my May Tag, I love this idea of tiling with different embellishments – a great way to use those things I’ve been saving! I started out by cutting out the word ‘BEAUTIFUL’ with my Cuttlebug, and then creating a tile for it. I painted the letters using Distress Paint, then inked them when dry. I used the BoBunny Olivia collection, and coloured the tag green. I then had a look through my collection of PaperVine Trinkets, and found ones I love and would work together: the little owls came from the Twit Twoo Trinkets, the key and lock came from Mini Lock and Key Trio, and the leaves by the owl came from Lovely Leaves, and there is on of the new Glass Butterfly Cabochons. I stamped the word ‘JOY’ on the die cut butterfly, and inked all the edge with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.
I love spending time making these tags for myself, making something beautiful for my studio. If you have some spare time I’d recommend you make the time to create your own 12 Tags of 2014.
