I spent a happy few hours this afternoon catching up on my Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014 – I was a couple of months behind!
I started out with the June Tag, I love the colours on this tag. I was able to follow mostly what Tim did on his tag – using the Distress Inks on the stencil to create the background on watercolour paper, stamping the butterflies (although I had to fussy cut them myself rather than use the Framelits). I added some charms and did the ‘Paula bow’ that is in Tim’s instructions.
Next was the July Tag – unfortunately I don’t have the seahorse dies (yet!), so I used the same technique on the bird and bird cage. The background is a lovely layered distressed effect, covered with embossed acetate. I coloured some string with Distress Stains too match the bird, and threaded it through the bottom of the bird cage, adding a ‘Made With Love’ Charm from PaperVine with some Distress Paint rubbed into the engraved words. I finished it with some paint around the edges of the tag.
The August Tag was my final one – I love the steampunk style of this tag, and I was able to follow Tim’s instructions reasonably well. Starting with Tissue Tape and creating a focal image, adding texture paste with stencils and then Distress Stains (I’m loving this combination of Rusty Hinge and Peacock Feathers – a new favourite I think). I finished it off with some PaperVine Gadget Gears and a saying from the Imagine If… Dreams Quote Sheet.
I forget how quick and satisfying making tags – I should do it more often!
