Welcome to the Imagine If Merry-Go-Round Hop! If you’ve started here, you can go back to the beginning and see Jo’s Kiwi Bush Merry-G0-Round. If you’ve come from Lilian’s Beautiful Vintage Merry-G0-Round, welcome!
This Merry-Go-Round is so cool! We’ve all had different themes, and I chose Under The Sea. Those of you who know me well will recall that I used to have seahorses in a tank, and I still love them, so this was a great theme for me. You can purchase your Merry-Go-Round here, and then choose your rides from the chipboard designs, I used Seahorse Family, Sea Shells, and a mermaid.
Have a look at the video: A Merry Go Round (smaller)
I had purchased the turntable with the LED lights which I wanted to be part of my design, so I started by cutting a circle in the bottom of the base, and starfish in the top of the base section. Then I painted the pieces, first with gesso, then turquoise paint on the outside and white on the inside to help reflect the lights. While all this painting was going on, I also painted all the pieces for the rides and decoration.
Once the paint was dry, I added glitter to the rides and decorations. I covered the top of the base and the canopy with some lovely sea-themed flocked paper (I got it all out of one sheet of 12″x12″ paper!), and I “inked” the edges with gesso.
After constructing the base, I used one of the new Imagine If stencils to sponge some wages around the outside, and I added muslin under the starfish cutouts. Once the Merry-Go-Round was constructed, and the rides added, I used some more muslin around the centre and around the base, on top of which I added the decorations I had painted and glittered.
Not only was this such a fun project to do, it now looks so pretty rotating in my lounge.
