Ice Skating in the Snow

Welcome to another Imagine If… Blog Hop!  If you want to start at the beginning, you need to head back to the Imagine If… Blog, and if you’ve come from Lilian’s beautiful Altered CD, you’re in the right place.

We are focusing on stencils this week – I LOVE stencils, they are so versatile and you can use them on so many projects.  I’ve been inspired by the Limor Webber classes I’ve taken recently, and decided to use my stencils as part of the layering on a mixed media layout.

I started out with white Bazzil Basics Dotted Swiss cardstock (my favourite!), and I put strips of washi tape on the left side of the cardstock, I used PaperVine Microdots Black, PaperVine Polka Dot (Black), and Tim Holtz Tissue Tape with snowflakes on it.  I then put a watery wash of gesso over the tape to mute to black a little and to give a better base for sticking onto.

Next, I stuck down two doilies over the washi tape, then it was time for stencils.  I have some Aleene’s Glitter Snow, which I used through two stencils – snowflakes and spots, I did this in three places: the top left, the bottom of the washi, and on the right of the top doily.  I heat set this, and in the process it caused the stenciled areas to fluff up which is especially nice on the snowflakes.

Next I added my photos and some snowflake washi to a couple of corners.  Then I mixed silver Gelato with some Glitter Snow, and used the arrows in a stencil to create a round-and-round feel.  I added journalling to them too!

I needed something in the middle, so I got out my Tim Holtz Christmas Framelits and stamped, embossed and cut out lots of snowflakes.  I stuck them into the middle, using foam mount for some.

Next I needed a title, so I turned to one of my favourite tools – my Dymo.  And I used the vertical writing wheel that I got recently.

The finishing touch was using a grey pastel pencil around the stenciled shapes to add some depth and make them stand out more.  I’m really pleased with this layout – mixed media layouts, here I come!

Your next stop on the hop is Ngaere and her amazing creation, don’t miss it!
